Christmas Program 2012

This morning Jack and Ewan had their Christmas program at preschool.  Sean, Oma, Opa and I all enjoyed ourselves very much.  The girls did two dances and then all the kids sung several songs, along with a manger scene and a duet of "Silent Night".

Afterwards we enjoyed some lunch and dessert.  Jack kept asking what he could have.  Poor guy wanted it all.  He asked to suck on a cheese puff and of course it did not work!  He finally gave in and had his chocolate peanut butter yogurt smoothie.  We packed a cupcake and put it in the freezer at home.  He has a good sized stash of Christmas goodies for when he is able to eat again!

I took some video clips and pictures, though Sean kept messing with the camera, especially the auto focus button, and pushing me while I was doing everything so needless to say the quality is not the best!!  Oh well, better than nothing.

Ewan singing during the program.  His position was not as good as during practice.
During the program he was usually blocked by the microphone wire or the
busy girl in front of him!

Today Sean wanted nothing to do with Santa so no photo of him!!

Admitting Defeat

Sean has pulled out all the stops and is now a full fledged "terrible two".  He is driving me completely insane now, as if it takes much.  I have enough going on with the holidays, making shakes and smoothies all the time (Jack and I are both so OVER this) and regular hectic madness.  But no, he has to make life more complicated.

He is constantly getting into trouble, defying everything we say, whining, complaining, not napping...  Ah, life is wonderful.  Yesterday he had FIVE accidents.  That is when I finally had a meltdown and admitted defeat.  He is now back in diapers.

I feel like a failure.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am extremely stubborn.  Well, so is Sean.  He won this battle.  For my own mental health I finally had to give in.  They hard part is that he started out so well.  Then the past month or so he regressed for reasons I just cannot understand.  We have tried it all.  And yesterday he did not even have much to drink.  He is doing it to drive me nuts and I know it.  We are having a power struggle right now.  So I will let him win this one for now.

I never thought I would give in, but it has just become too much.  I still will NEVER be the parent of a three year old that is not potty trained.  That I will never understand.  Ewan trained at 2years and 3months.  Sean will be that age at Christmas, so maybe after the holidays he will decide he is ready again.  Just because he has won this battle does not mean he will win the war!!!

Thanksgiving 2012

FINALLY we are getting back into a semi-routine after being sick and Jack's broken jaw.  Plus the netbook is working again so it is time to blog again.  Here are a few photos from Thanksgiving.  We had a wonderful day spending time with family and eating yummy food and enjoying good wine.  Fun was had by all, especially our birthday boy Ewan!!

FYI, the first three shots are of the boys enjoying their kiddie cocktails!!  They now love to have a cocktail with the grown-ups!

Living in a Daze

There have been no updates due to the daze in which I am living.  After Thanksgiving four of us got sick.  It started with Sean and a high fever Sunday.  Ewan came home from school Monday looking awful.  He then had a high fever.  I felt it coming on.  Josh got it later.  Jack avoided it.

So here I am sick yet taking care of everyone else.  Somehow we survived!  By Friday I was starting to feel human again.  Then life really threw us a curve ball.  Jack fell down upstairs and hit his chin hard.  After the crying stopped I was able look a little and thought he might need to go to the ER.  Then when he said he could not eat I knew it was serious.

I called Josh and he came home.  Jack was adamant about both of us going with him.  Oma and Opa had already left for the mountains.  We packed a bag of snacks and drinks and arrived at the ER around 6PM on a Friday night.  Luckily it was not too terribly long before we were called back.  We did wait in the room forever though.  We watches TV which was stuck on Tvland.  The boys ate all their snacks and finished their drinks.  Long story short....after an xray and CT scan we found out his right jaw was fractured.  We left the hospital at 11:30 and got Taco Bell for dinner at midnight while the boys slept in the car.  Then we got pain meds and antibiotics at the 24 hour pharmacy. By the time Jack went to bed it was 1AM.

We struggled through the weekend eating smoothies and very soft food.  Jack discovered a love for pumpkin eggnog.  Whatever it takes to keep the calorie count up!  Monday we went to the plastic surgeon.  Surgery was set for Wednesday.  I also went to the Minute Clinic Monday and got medicine for a sinus infection.

Wednesday we left the house just after 5AM to go to the hospital (Oma and Opa already had Ewan and Sean overnight).  Jack was a trooper with everyone coming and going in his room.  He even did not cry when they took him back.  He came through very well.  They installed an arch bar and rubber banded his mouth shut.  They even let him go home (we thought we would be spending the night).

It was a very rough day.  He wanted the rubber bands out and even took a couple out himself.  Worse yet he had sore eyes and was hysterical.  Finally at nearly bedtime Josh was able to get drops in.

After all this I felt horrible.  I was not taking my medicine or drinking enough since I was too busy with Jack.  Wish us luck today.

More updates and pics from the phone if I ever find the time!
