Veggie Success and More Tidbits

Last night we finally had success getting Jack to eat vegetables. We have tried so many veggies so many different ways and with many sauces...and somehow it was a medium/hot curry sauce that worked!! We had lamb meatballs (which Jack loves) and veggies in the curry sauce. So like always we offered him some veggies and to our amazement he ate them! At first he licked all the sauce off and I thought he would spit out the actually vegetable which what he usually does...but he actually ate the vegetables (beans, peas and broccoli). And to top it all off he actually at the rice too. In the past he will always spit out rice, even if it's just one grain on the rest of a spoonful of food. Last night he loved it though...maybe because it was spicy and hot (the rice was cooked with some coconut milk and crushed red pepper). That's our boy....adventurous....spicy curry, lamb, duck, wasabi peas...

Ewan LOVES his jumparoo now. Took a while, but he can't get enough of it now. He falls asleep in it too. It has magical powers...helps if I want him to nap soon!!!

The boys enjoying snack time on the porch. Jack wanted to stay outside in his chair for his snack so we did. Was a beautiful afternoon.

Jack sneaking into Ewan's walker!!!

Jack enjoying some chocolate covered strawberries after his veggie success!!!

Ewan enjoying his first teething biscuit! He really like chowing down on it! Also gnawed on a sweet potato fry at dinner. Still not very into baby food though.

Rise and Shine

The holiday weekend is over and time for a new routine! Now that Ewan is pretty much always sleeping until at least 6:30 in the morning I've decided to get up early again so I can exercise. It's the only time I have to myself anymore. So this morning I was dressed and out the door before 5:30AM. It's about the same time I exercised when I was working, but somehow it seems different now with kids.

It was a pleasant walk though. I forgot how fast I can be without nearly 50 pounds of BIG BOYS plus the weight of a stroller and pulling the dog. I took Cosmo and she enjoyed herself too. I forgot how many people are up in the neighborhood at the hour. Saw several of the regular people I used to see out walking. Maybe I'll even start jogging again, after all before kids I used to jog up to 5 miles a day. Right now the goal is just to get back into my pre-pregnancies clothes. The summer isn't the best time to jog around here since it's already hot and humid at 5:30 even.

So life it somewhat routine now. Ewan still likes to change his schedule now and then. He was napping well in the morning and then for the holiday weekend he wouldn't nap in the morning. Then again this morning he started falling asleep in his jumparoo by 8:30! Always something going on!!

Jack now has bruises and scratches all over....arms, legs, fingers and chin. The other night he managed to trip while walking Cosmo. She didn't even pull him, he just managed to fall on his own. So he scratched up his fingers pretty good. After a good cry and recovery time he was back to walking her home though. He is so proud of himself for being a big boy and walking her!! Then yesterday while the guys were all home alone Jack somehow got carpet burn on his chin. Not sure I want to know how that happened!!!

Ewan is getting bigger and bigger by the day! He's absolutely huge. He is not a big fan of baby food yet, a little surprising for such a big guy. He does managed to make quite the mess with his food, just not much finding its way into his mouth! He also loves his big brother. The boys just stare at each other sometimes and laugh. I can't wait until they are a little older and can play together.

Gone Fishing

Enjoying a picnic in the park.

Ewan's view from the picnic table!

Fishing with Daddy.

Trying to release a turtle.

Finally...we caught a real fish!!!

Yesterday we went for a picnic and fishing at Sesqui. Jack was highly distracted at dinner because we were sitting right by the playground. So he would eat a little, play a little and repeat. Once the picnic was over we headed to the lake to take Jack fishing for the first time. Needless to say it's more work that fishing trying to keep Jack out of the water...and still he got in!! I was feeding Ewan and Jack managed to get by Daddy and sneak in the lake...didn't get too wet, mostly dirty and stinky. The big catch of the night was two turtles...and finally one small fish. Jack had tons of fun.

The boys also had their checkups yesterday. They both remain BIG boys. Jack is 35.5 inches tall (off the charts) and 27 pounds (50-75%). Ewan is 29.5 inches tall (off the charts) and 21 pounds, 2 ounces (95-97%). So Ewan isn't all that much lighter than his big brother. No wonder I get so sore holding him!!!!

We've also been enjoying the holiday weekend. This morning Josh made huckleberry syrup from last year's berry crop. It was delish on pancakes....which Jack absolutely gobbled up. Right now Mommy and Daddy are also enjoying some huckleberry martinis. A delicious new discovery!!!! Tomorrow I'll be making a huckleberry pie to take to a party. That's doesn't even put a small dent in the berry stash!

Beaufort Weekend

This past weekend we enjoyed ourselves in Beaufort, SC. It was my Mother's Day celebration since Josh and Jack were both gone on Mother's Day.

The beginning was all for the boys though....of course I had fun too. We went to the Blue Angels air show. It was Jack's second air show in two weeks and he absolutely loved it! He does LOVE planes. He is definitely Daddy's boy. We all had fun...other than me getting sunburn. Yes, I put on sunblock and re-applied TWICE! Still managed to get sunburn...boys were just fine.

After the airshow we headed to the hotel and all showered before dinner. Needless to say with my new farmer's tan I couldn't wear my dress to dinner....looks horrific! Anyway dinner was wonderful. Jack ate duck for the first time and liked it! The restaurant was on the waterway so we walked the boardwalk after dinner. Jack enjoyed chasing a little girl...she was leading him on and enjoying it!! Jack also cheered for the bride and groom (there was a wedding there as well)!

Sunday Jack went to see the ocean for the first time. Can't believe it took us so long to get him there, but oh well. We went to Hunting Island State Park and the weather was cloudy, good for me!! Jack of course went straight for the sand, eating it and throwing it all over, including in his hair. Then Josh took him to the water. He didn't mind it....until the tide came up to him and then away. He lost his balance and fell a couple times. After that he didn't care for the water so much!! Needless to say he needed to be changed out of his wet clothes so he played in a swim diaper for a while. After washing off at the showers it was back to town for lunch.

Jack gets distracted in restaurants....at lunch he was far too busy flirting with a young girl sitting at a nearby table and all the other ladies to focus on his food! After lunch we headed to the park and played for a while before the lightning and thunder got too close. Ewan rode the swings for the first time....LOVED it! As soon as we got in the car it poured!! Just in time.

It was a long ride home....Ewan cried for 75 minutes straight! He doesn't seem to like riding in the car anymore. Even a short road trip is awful now. We won't be going far anytime soon. He better get over this phase soon!

Atlanta Adventures

What a fun weekend in Atlanta. We arrived Friday afternoon and had a fabulous weekend. Jack loved Aunt Pam and Uncle Steve's dog Crystal. She didn't enjoy him quite as much! Two kids are too much for her!!

Saturday Jack headed out with his Daddy, Uncle Steve and cousin Ted to an airshow near Macon. I can tell he had tons of fun!! He slept well on the ride back to the house.

Shortly after they got back from the airshow his second cousins arrived and they had so much fun together. Jack hadn't seen them since he was a baby...but they acted like they played with each other everyday. He also LOVED Aunt Pam's lasagna.

Sunday morning we had brunch at his second cousin's house...it was so much fun. My cousin has four children and tons of toys...Jack loved them all!!!!

Thanks for all the fun everyone!!!
