LONG Rough Week

Napping on the couch.

In the zone watching a car race!

It's only Friday morning and yet it seems like it should be Sunday night!! It's been a long rough week at the Dalrymple house. It began late Monday morning...Josh came home for lunch and Jack just snuggled up on Daddy's shoulder. He went down for a super early nap and was never the same again. He was fussy, in a daze and just didn't know what he wanted. Our first thought was teething....his two bottom 2 yr molars are coming in. It made sense, the whining, lack of appetite, fever.

By late Tuesday he wasn't better, still feverish and just not himself. We had to cancel everything we planned for the week and have been pretty much homebound all week. I'm going absolutely insane!!! For 4 nights in a row one of the boys has been up...so I didn't get out for my morning exercise 3 days in a row. This morning I went out again since Jack was only up for 30 minutes last night. I had to get out!!! One night it was Ewan, the other 3 it was Jack. Jack has been getting up screaming and doesn't know what he wants. He can't fall back asleep either, so I stay in the room with him so he won't scream and wake up Ewan. He just tossed and turned for nearly 2 hours until he finally fell asleep. After spending the first night on the floor I finally wised up and nodded off on the toddler bed!!

The days have been extremely whiny and frustrating. There isn't anything I can do to make him feel better, yet he wants something! And then he doesn't want it! And of course yesterday Ewan was fussy too (think it's just teething with him though).

So far today things are a little better. Ewan is himself so far, Jack is still whiny. He seems to have a sore throat and is now drinking little, in addition to eating almost nothing. But this morning Oma came to save the day and brought Panera for breakfast and give me some "adult" time. I also finally broke down and pulled out some videos of car races for Jack to watch. He isn't really allowed to watch TV, but at this point he loves to watch cars and he keeps him somewhat happy. He is in the zone and may nod off soon!

Hopefuly Jack will feel better soon. It's difficult to see him feel miserable and pathetic but not be able to do much for him. And I NEED SLEEP!!

Our other news is that Ewan is SO CLOSE to crawling. He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth. Just hasn't managed to progress forward yet!

Growing Pains.....and a Glimmer of Hope

Last night Jack experienced his first major battle with Mommy and Daddy. He devoured his tater tots and some of Daddy's for dinner and ate most of his baked beans. He was very stubborn about eating his chicken though. We attempted several times to get him to eat a couple bites...he would put it in his mouth and then spit it out, or better yet just toss it on the floor. Needless to say this grew old and we were not willing to give in this time. So Jack sat at the table for an hour after his official mealtime (which was already 30 minutes) and cried/screamed the entire time. We kept telling him all he had to do was eat ONE bite of chicken. He got hysterical when Daddy and Ewan went upstairs for a bath without him, but he still wasn't willing to eat a single bite (not even a big bite). After much crying and wearing everyone down, Josh finally shoved it in his mouth (now about the size of one grain of rice after being spit out several times) and Jack swallowed it after drinking some milk.

We were thrilled it was finally over!!! As was Jack!!! Of course he probably still didn't learn his lesson but eventually he will.

And now for the glimmer of hope.........Jack is preparing for potty training. We call it "getting familiar with the potty" stage. Everyone now and then he will sit on his potty, never doing anything though. So last night after crying for an hour at the table Josh took him up for a bath. He got naked and sat on the potty while Josh put away his dirty diaper. When he returned there was pee in the potty!!!! Yes, our little man went in the potty for the first time...and nobody even witnessed it!! Perhaps all out potty training is in our somewhat near future!

Long Weekend

Ewan enjoying his quilt Oma made just for him.

Checking out the bears!

Watching baby giraffe Lewis.

Morning at the zoo with Grandpa.

Jack showing off Grandpa's hat!!
We just finished a long weekend....Friday morning we had a playdate with Oma and Opa. Opa hadn't seen the boys in one whole week so he wanted to play!! Opa and the boys all had a blast! They even all behaved, Opa too!! Ewan was thrilled to get a new quiltie Oma made just for him. Now both boys have a play quilt made by their Oma. After much play the boys were all hungry and we met Daddy at Five Guys for lunch. Jack likes it there, especially the peanuts in the shell!!
After some good naps Friday afternoon Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit. It was their first visit since Jack was born so we were all excited to see them! Jack loved showing off all his tricks to a new audience!
Saturday morning the four of us went to the zoo with Grandpa. It was a beautiful morning and Jack help the lion cubs celebrate their first birthday by eating a cubcake!! Then we picked up Grandma and had lunch at the house, played, napped, played some more and went to dinner. We went to one of our new favorite places, Lilfred's in Rembert. Josh and I went there for our anniversary and it was absolutely fabulous again. Jack of course flirted with all the girls and Ewan has started to flirt too!!
Sunday we went to lunch (mini sleep deprived meltdown for Jack), did a quick shopping trip and headed home for naps. After nap time the boys enjoyed the pool at Grandma and Grandpa's hotel. It was Ewan's first time in a pool and he loved splashing! We ate a quiet dinner at home and enjoyed some homemade blackberry cobbler for dessert (Josh picked wild berries that morning)!
Then Monday the boys and I settled back into "normal" life while Grandma and Grandpa went shopping most of the day. And then it was dinner for the whole clan....the four of us, Oma, Opa, Grandma and Grandpa. The boys enjoyed flirting again and everyone had a wonderful meal at Mr. Friendly's. Best grits in town, and we aren't even grits people!!
And now Grandma and Grandpa went home today and life is back to what little routine we had before.
Ewan continues to fuss because of teeth (first one cut through Friday). He is getting much better at eating baby food, FINALLY!!! Jack is still full of energy and growing. Had to get the poor boy new shoes today he seems to be outgrowing all of his shoes!!
